Is HONG KONG Really Just a BETTER Version of CHINA? – Hong Kong Video

Hey Laowinners!

I get constant messages asking me if they are going to move to China, should they choose Hong Kong instead? Many companies have factories and offices in Guangdong province, which is a part of mainland China. Hong Kong on the other hand, has it’s own government, law, and perks, so many people that are posted in China for awhile choose to work and stay in Hong Kong. Today, I go through a list of reasons that you may want to consider before moving or traveling to either Hong Kong or mainland China.

  5. Do not compare Hongkong with the mainland. You should compare Hongkong with Shanghai or Shenzhen. They are the same big cities. you compare Hongkong with the countryside, it is obviously unfair.

  15. It's always kind of a difficult thing. Like, remember when you were a young guy– the "exotic" and "wild wild east" kind of feeling is what is so attractive to young western men. But at the same time a lot of negatives come along with this type of environment. Pollution, corruption, communist and nationalist old people, illogical and stubborn cultural values… Yet at the same time this is kind of what makes places like mainland China an adventure. As far as raising a family and settling down goes, that's a different story. But I certainly agree that living in Guangdong can help offer an easier time switching between the two worlds. I guess it really depends on what point in life you're in. Matt's a dad in his early 30's raising a family. I'm early 20's still on that wild boi shit, and I think it's important to recognize the different needs for a man at different points in his life.

  23. Great video man, I am planning to move to china someday and im still in the dilemma of deciding where to move in china or where to teach as id be seeking job opportunities all over. I tend to hear that mainland china has higher salaries due to less competition and I dont mean shenzhen or beijing where it is already packed with foreigners.

  25. Hey Laowhy, I will have the opportunity to visit China in a few years, most likely Shanghai. Anything important I should know about Shanghai, or 1st tier cities in general? Thanks, and stay awesome!

  26. Im 18 and was lucky enough to go to hong kong for about 4 weeks and I roamed the city alone, travelling on the underground tubes to get around the city was awesome! I also got a bus to Mong Kok and visited cheap electronic stores and fell in love with the city

  27. A comment on the relative cost of living between the two places, Hong Kong vs. mainland first tier cities, would have been informative. All that "westerness" in Hong Kong makes it one of the most expensive cities in the world.

  28. Doesn't look much different than it did the last time I visited nearly 25 years ago. Even the cabs are the same.

  29. Hong Kong is awesome, just got back from there last week…I never had any desire to really visit mainland China. If the Chinese mainland tourist are any indication of the mainland Chinese in general then I’m more than happy to never visit.
