Welcome to a Shanghai Flyer flight report, for those of you who already subscribed a warm welcome back 🙂
This is a review of my recent flight onboard Cathay Pacific A350-900 aircraft from Newark to Hong Kong, it is also my second time flying Cathay’s A350-900 aircraft. As you may tell from my review of CX890 in September, Cathay Pacific had adjusted the equipment on this route. It was previously operated by a three cabin 777-300ER with a total capacity of 340 pax. As of October,31st this year, Cathay Pacific switched the aircraft to their latest state of the art Airbus A350, with a total capacity of 280 pax. One of the reason for this adjustment is due to the low demand on the flight to Newark. Despite having a full cabin again when I fly, the flight to Newark is almost empty for 70 percent of the year, except for during holiday seasons when the demand peak with students and other Asian immigrants in New Jersey, Pennsylvania…
The flight out of Newark depart at 1AM in the morning from Terminal B. Cathay Pacific uses British Airways Galleries lounge. The lounge opens solely for this flight as it is the last departure of the evening. Because of the midnight departure, dinner service is abbreviated. There was no appetizer nor dessert. The meal service was efficient despite a full cabin. However, in the middle of the flight when my friend tried to order two snack items, wonton soup and the burger, he was declined by the cabin crew with an excuse that they need to be considerate for all passenger because it was a full cabin. That was an absolute disgrace and unacceptable excuse. As a revenue business class passenger, it is his entitlement to order anything from the snack menu at any time he wish upon, thus, there are utterly no excuses as to why my friend was not allowed to try all the items on the snack menu for a 16 hours ultra longhaul flight. I am currently in the process of composing a complaint through Cathay Pacific’s website regarding this issue. The entire crew on my flight was very mediocre. The Inflight Service Manager disappeared after we reached cruising altitude. Moreover, drinks I ordered throughout the flight was consistently being delivered to the wrong seat. After all, this was perhaps my most disappointing flight with Cathay Pacific this year and I sincerely hope I would see some improvements on my upcoming flight back to Newark on January,3rd.
